On March 8th, something incredible happened on E 28th and Burnside—a group of passionate community members came together, paintbrushes in hand, to transform a blank wall into a vibrant, living piece of art. This mural isn’t just about brightening up the neighborhood; it’s about unity, resilience, and the power of collective effort.

A Collective Vision
From the very beginning, this project was about more than just aesthetics. It was about creating a space that tells a story, sparks conversation, and reminds us all of the power of community-driven initiatives.
In the wake of Fifty Licks burning down, we wanted to create something that would deter graffiti and instead inspire creativity and connection. And wow, did the community show up! Volunteers of all ages, including middle school students from Pacific Crest, grabbed paintbrushes and got to work.
Local businesses generously donated food and coffee, keeping our hardworking artists fueled throughout the day. Even passing cars honked and waved in support, adding to the electric energy of the event. Artists, business owners, and volunteers worked side by side, turning an idea into something tangible—something we can all be proud of.

A Day of Creativity & Connection
The air buzzed with excitement as people arrived, ready to lend a hand. Some sketched outlines, others filled in bold colors, and many simply stopped by to admire the progress and chat with neighbors. It was a day filled with laughter, paint-splattered clothes, and a shared sense of purpose.

More Than a Mural
This mural is more than a piece of art—it’s a testament to what’s possible when we come together for a common goal. It’s a reminder that our neighborhood isn’t just a collection of buildings and businesses, but a thriving community with a story to tell. And this is just the beginning.
We hope that every time you pass by E 28th & Burnside, you’ll be reminded of the creativity, teamwork, and local pride that brought this mural to life. And who knows? Maybe it’ll inspire the next community project, the next collaboration, or the next big idea.
A huge thank you to everyone who contributed their time, energy, and talent to making this happen. Let’s keep creating, collaborating, and proving that Kernside is more than just a place—it’s a vibe.
